How orders are attributed

What has to be true for an order to count as coming from the game, and why the numbers may differ from your ad platform.

Attribution here is deliberately simple, which makes it conservative and trustworthy.

The rule

An order is attributed to a campaign when the order carries a game session token. That token is written into the cart when the gifts are granted, and it survives to the order.

That is the whole rule. No modelling, no assumed windows, no view-through.

What that means

  • It is not guessing. The shopper played, the token was written, the order carries it. There is no probability involved.
  • It is under-inclusive, on purpose. Someone who plays the game, leaves, and comes back three days later on a different device to buy will not be attributed. Their order is real revenue you earned, and our dashboard will not claim it.
  • It cannot over-claim. No order is attributed unless it literally carries the token.

Why your ad platform may show more

Meta and Google use click and view-through windows, cross-device graphs and modelling. They will generally report more conversions than we do, because they are attributing more loosely.

Neither number is wrong. Ours answers “did this order come from a game session?” Theirs answers “did this person see our ad at some point before buying?”

Use ours to judge the mechanic and theirs to judge the media.

Refunds and cancellations

Attributed revenue is recorded from the order at the time it is placed. A later refund is not currently subtracted, so treat attributed revenue as gross.

Data delay

Order attribution arrives by webhook, usually within seconds. If a webhook is delayed on Shopify’s side an order can appear a few minutes late.
