The five prize types
Free product, free shipping, percentage off, amount off, and amount off shipping. What each one does and when to use it.
Each card you reveal grants one prize. There are five kinds.
Free product
A specific product variant, added to the cart at $0.
This is the strongest gift, because it is a physical thing the shopper can see in their cart. It is also the one with requirements: the variant must be in stock, published, and sellable. The app blocks publishing if it isn’t, since a gift that cannot be added to a cart breaks the flow.
Use a low-cost, high-perceived-value item. A sample, a sticker pack, a guide, an accessory. Your gift cost is the thing you are trading for a higher conversion rate, so keep it small and keep it desirable.
Free shipping
Removes the shipping cost at checkout.
Reliably the highest-converting gift per unit of margin given away, because shipping cost is the most common reason a cart is abandoned. It is applied as a shipping discount, so it shows up at the shipping step rather than as a cart line.
Percentage off
A percentage off the order. You set the number.
Amount off
A fixed amount off the order, in your store’s currency.
Amount off shipping
A fixed amount off shipping, rather than all of it. Useful when your shipping is expensive and free shipping would cost you too much: knocking a set amount off still reads as a win.
Ordering and how many
The number of gifts you configure is the number of cards a shopper must flip. Three gifts, three flips.
Put your best gift last if you want people to complete the board. The final reveal is the one they remember.
One discount of each kind per board
Free products stack without limit: add five and all five arrive in the cart at $0.
Discounts do not. A board applies one order discount (percentage off or amount off) and one shipping discount (free shipping or amount off shipping). If you configure two percentage-off prizes, the board will reveal both and only the first is actually applied.
So the useful shape of a board is: as many free products as you like, plus at most one order discount, plus at most one shipping gift. Anything beyond that reveals without paying out.
