Gifts and subscriptions

Gifts apply to a subscription's first order and are designed not to leak into renewals.

If you sell subscriptions, this is the part worth reading carefully.

First orders work

A shopper can play the game, collect gifts, and buy a subscription product. The gifts apply to that first order: free-product lines at $0, percentage and amount discounts, free shipping.

This has been verified end to end on a real paid order including a live subscription contract, not just in theory.

Renewals should not inherit the gifts

A gift is for the order the shopper earned it on. A free product that repeats every month forever, or free shipping on every renewal, would quietly destroy the margin the funnel is supposed to improve.

The app is built to avoid that: the product discount is scoped to the product class only, deliberately not the shipping class, because a shipping-class discount is the thing that leaks into renewals.

Check your own contracts

Subscription apps differ in how they build contracts from a first order. If subscriptions are a meaningful part of your revenue, place one real test order through the funnel and then look at the resulting contract in your subscription app to confirm the recurring price is what you expect.

That five-minute check is worth more than any assurance here, because the contract is created by your subscription app, not by us.

If you find a leak

Email us with the order number and the contract, and we will look at it. This is the area we most want to hear about.
